d:

de·hu·man·ize.

verb dē-ˈhyü-mə-ˌnīz dē-ˈyü-\. : to treat (someone) as though he or she is not a human being.

Dehumanization isn’t only in warfare, threat or abuse. Dehumanization is that constant qualifier describing your humanity.

Dehumanization is saying she isn’t just a girl, but a fat girl. It’s looking at the mirror and being forced to think woman instead of human. It’s saying that she’s not just a person, but an Asian one. It’s pointing to an American guy and labelling him an African American man. And when aliens come to earth, anything that is not a white cisheterosexual middle aged able-bodied man must be categorized aside from human. Dehumanization is nuance.

It’s that adjective that implies you are less “human” and so requires more explanation. :)

Say something back.
